Our tiered cakes come assembled, and usually have dowel rods in the bottom tiers to support the tiers stacked on top. There is always one dowel rod thru the entire cake to hold cake for travel. Make sure to have a flat, level spot in your (air-conditioned) car when picking up- the floorboard for smaller cakes or the bakc/trunk area.  Our staff will help secure your cake for travel.

Please let us know if you have any questions about how to serve your cake. We recommend storing your cake in the refrigerator overnight and leaving at room temperature for at least 2 hours before serving.

Cake Care

Once you pick up your cake, we want to make sure you can transport and serve it properly.  Here are a few tips!

Picking up Your Cake

  • Make sure you have a flat & level spot in your car before picking up.  The trunk of the car or floorboard are usually the best spots for placing your cake.  During warmer months, air conditioning is necessary for safe transport.

  • For tiered cakes, please let our staff help place the cake in your car.  They will make sure it is level and secured for travel.  We do not recommend having anyone hold the cake during travel.

  • Unless it is freezing outside, your cake should travel directly home or to the party venue.  It only takes a few minutes to melt and destabilize your cake.  Sunlight shining onto the cake during a long drive will also cause chocolate to melt or colors to fade.

  • Do not slam on your brakes or make sudden, sharp turns.

If Serving your cake that day

  • If serving your cake in a few hours and not transporting:  Leave at cool room temperature.  Our cakes taste best at room temperature.

  • Sometimes as cakes warm up, air bubbles may form under the frosting/fondant, especially the longer it sits out.  Using a clean napkin or paper towel, hold it over the bubble and lightly press to flatten.  If the room is not cool enough, then we recommend storing in the fridge until an hour before serving your cake.

  • If the cake will be transported again, please store in the refrigerator until leaving.  Cold Cakes travel best!

Storing your cake in the refrigerator

  • If possible, store your cake in the box it came in.  We also recommend covering any openings with plastic wrap.  We are happy to cover any opening in the box when you pick up.  This helps prevent humidity from forming condensation on your cake or causing any colored icings to run.  It also helps prevent savory food odors from affecting your cake.

  • If the box does not fit in your fridge, you can place the cake in the fridge.  The cake may "sweat" a little as it warms up, but the condensation will evaporate.  Place in front of a low fan to speed this up if needed.

  • Leftover cake should be refrigerated and consumed within 4-5 days or frozen up to two weeks.

Freezing Cakes

Sometimes things come up and if so, you can freeze your decorated cake.

  • If possible, wrap the box completely with plastic wrap.  If not, chill cake until firm, then wrap the cake with plastic wrap.  If there are fondant decorations (numbers, figures, etc.), those can be removed and stored safely at room temperature.  Freeze for up to two weeks (can be frozen longer, but texture of cake may suffer, especially if freezer temperatures fluctuate.)

  • To thaw:  place wrapped cake in refrigerator for at least one day to thaw.

  • Keep at room temperature for a few hours and then unwrap.  This will help minimize condensation.

  • Unwrap and allow any condensation to evaporate. *if you had to wrap the cake directly, unwrap while still cold and allow to warm up at room temperature.
